One honest word about the name before you read on. Rose Mocha is not a rose garden and it is not a coffee bar - the published note list is a bright fruity gourmand, and that is what you will get. If you came looking for a petal-and-espresso scent, this is not it; if you like whipped cream, marshmallow and berries, read on.

It opens airy and clean: Italian lemon and crisp apple with a dusting of freesia and nectarine blossom, more like morning light through a kitchen window than a fruit bowl. The middle goes soft and edible, marshmallow and strawberry rolled into a warm coconut and orange-blossom creaminess. Then it settles - whipped cream, sugar and vanilla with a thread of raspberry, resting on clean musk and ambroxan that keeps the whole thing close to the skin and comforting rather than loud.

It is easy company. Pretty enough for date night, soft enough for the office, and sweet without tipping into dessert-trolley heaviness. Lovely in spring and through autumn and winter, day or evening, and made for women.

How to wear

Spray two or three times on moisturised pulse points - wrists, throat and behind the ears - from about 15cm away, and let it dry by itself rather than rubbing, which blunts the lemon and apple opening. Because the base is creamy and close-wearing, a mist across the front of a jumper or into the ends of the hair helps it carry a little further.
