Very few fruity scents dare to do this. Afrah Exclusif starts on mango so ripe it almost drips, softened by sweet pear, and then lays a fine curl of incense straight over the top. The effect is warm and slightly mysterious, and it stops the fruit reading as juvenile within the first minute.

Jasmine and rose take the middle and turn everything more grown-up, the jasmine creamy and indolent, the rose velvety rather than green. The fruit does not vanish; it sits underneath the flowers like syrup under cream.

How to wear

Spray 2-3 times on pulse points (wrists, neck, behind the ears) from about 15cm away. Apply to moisturised skin and don't rub, so the mango and pear stay juicy. A light mist on a collar or scarf keeps the incense and sandalwood with you.
