Ashen Waves opens cool and mineral. The marine accord arrives first and reads more like wet stone than open sea, while lemon zest strikes across it with a bright, bitter edge. Within moments saffron threads in - dry, faintly leathery, a little peppery - and lends the freshness an unexpected warmth that keeps it from behaving like an ordinary citrus.

At its centre sits rose essence, handled with real restraint. How to wear

Two or three sprays are plenty. Apply to the pulse points at the neck and inner wrists, and one spray onto a shirt collar if you want the saffron and rose to carry further through the day. Keep it away from the eyes and do not rub the wrists together, as that bruises the citrus opening and shortens it.
