Bois De Emperor opens with a crackle of pink and black pepper - bright and clean rather than hot, more like the first twist of a peppermill than a curry pot. A quiet thread of rose runs through the middle and keeps the whole thing smooth instead of bone-dry, the way a little floral always softens hard wood. Then Atlas cedarwood, balsam fir and warm labdanum build the base: resinous, polished and pine-tinged, the smell of a well-kept study in winter.

How to wear

Spray 2-3 times on pulse points (wrists, neck, behind the ears) from about 15cm away. Apply to moisturised skin and don't rub, so the pepper keeps its sparkle. A light mist on a coat collar holds the cedar and fir base close as you move.
