Córdoba Aseel opens sharp and warm in the same breath. Saffron comes up first, dry and faintly metallic, with black pepper prickling behind it and nutmeg dusted over the top. A squeeze of bergamot keeps that spice from closing in too soon.

The middle turns resinous. Gurjun balsam and patchouli settle across creamy sandalwood, and the spice loses its bite while keeping every bit of its heat. This is the stretch where the scent stops being bright and starts being deep.

The dry-down is the richest part. Supple leather and oud sit over dry cedarwood and labdanum, smooth rather than smoky - nearer a well-worn jacket than a bonfire - and it holds close to the skin without thinning out.

Autumn and winter are its season, and it moves from a weekday afternoon into a long evening without missing a step. Men and women wear it equally well.

How to wear

Spray 2-3 times on pulse points (wrists, neck, behind the ears) from about 15cm away. Apply to moisturised skin and don't rub, so the saffron and pepper keep their edge. A single spray on a coat collar carries the leather and oud with you.
