Before anything else: this is a two-piece set, not a single bottle. The box holds the 100ml (3.4 fl oz) Creme Couture Kunafa Crush Eau de Parfum spray and a 10ml (0.34 fl oz) concentrated perfume oil roll-on of the same scent. The roll-on is applied to the skin from the ball, never sprayed.

The opening is syrupy and golden - caramel and honey, cut with tart cranberry and tamarind and a pinch of pink pepper that stops the sugar turning cloying. The heart is the pastry itself: warm coumarin and cacao, buttery and rich, threaded with a dark rose and a smudge of black violet so there is a flower hiding inside the dessert. It finishes on vanilla, creamy massoia wood, patchouli and clean musk, leaving a warm, syrup-and-bakery trail behind you.

Owning both formats is the point. The Eau de Parfum spray throws the caramel and honey outward, the way a scent should fill a room when you walk in. The oil keeps everything tucked against the skin, richer and quieter, and it is the easier of the two to carry and reapply through a long evening. Layered, the oil anchors the vanilla base while the spray keeps the top bright.

How to wear

Spray the Eau de Parfum two or three times onto moisturised pulse points - wrists, throat, behind the ears - from around 15cm, then leave it be; rubbing dulls the cranberry and pink pepper that keep the caramel lively. Trace the oil over the same points for depth, using one light pass, as it is concentrated. Keep the roll-on in an evening bag for a warm top-up before dinner.
