Elaf does not build up to vanilla, it starts there. What keeps the opening interesting is the company it keeps: aromatic lavender gives it a herbal, almost barbershop coolness, ginger adds a small prickle of heat, and cacao brings a dry, faintly bitter edge that stops the sweetness running away with itself.

Within minutes the herbs step back and the heart takes over. This is vanilla caviar - the scraped-out seed rather than the essence - dense, silky and speckled, far more bean than bakery.

The dry-down is vanilla absolute and very little else. Warm, resinous and softly sweet instead of sugary, it settles close and powdery on the skin, with the cocoa still faintly there beneath it.

A cold-weather scent by nature: autumn and winter, evenings in and days out, and easy enough for the office if you keep it to a spray or two.

How to wear

Spray 2-3 times on pulse points (wrists, neck, behind the ears) from about 15cm away. Apply to moisturised skin and don't rub, so the lavender and ginger stay crisp. A light mist on a scarf holds the vanilla close for the rest of the day.
