Fleur Eternelle Aura opens tart and green. There is a flick of grapefruit rind, sour and bright, laid across the cool resinous bite of cypress - closer to a garden in November than to a fruit bowl.

The middle turns powdery and root-like. Orris and carrot seed lend a dry, almost mineral softness while geranium keeps a crisp green line running through, so the powder never slides into sweetness.

It finishes quietly. Vetiver brings a smoky, earthy grain, a suede-like leather rounds off the corners, and pale cedarwood holds the whole thing close to the skin.

Autumn and winter are its natural seasons, and it works as well at a desk as it does across a dinner table. Unisex, and a good choice if you like a fragrance that keeps its distance rather than announcing itself.

How to wear

Spray 2-3 times on pulse points (wrists, neck, behind the ears) from about 15cm away. Apply to moisturised skin and don't rub, so the grapefruit and cypress stay sharp. A light spray on a shirt collar keeps the orris and vetiver in range all day.
