Layalina opens crisp. Cool lavender meets a juicy wedge of mandarin, aromatic and clean, the sort of start that would be at home on a morning commute. It does not stay that way for long.

The heart softens into orange blossom, and that is where the character shifts. Dry tobacco leaf comes up behind the flower with green oakmoss alongside it, lending a shadowed, faintly smoky lean that pulls the whole composition towards the evening.

What it settles into is comfortable rather than dark. Amber and vanilla round everything off, clean musk smooths the seams, and the finish is warm and lightly powdered with the tobacco still legible underneath.

It belongs to autumn and winter, equally wearable in the daytime and after dark, and it reads well on men and on women alike.

How to wear

Two or three sprays are plenty: wrists, throat and behind the ears, held about 15cm away. Put it on moisturised skin and let it dry by itself rather than rubbing, which blunts the lavender. If you want the tobacco and oakmoss to carry further, add a single spray to a jacket lapel.
