Two pieces in one carton. The 100ml Oudi Eau de Parfum does the proper scenting, and the 50ml perfumed deodorant spray carries a lighter reading of the same woody-rose accord for mornings when the full fragrance would be too much.

The eau de parfum opens on agarwood straight away, with rose over it and earthy patchouli below, so the first impressions are dark, floral and a little damp in the way good patchouli is.

Through the middle, cinnamon warms the wood and amber smooths it, while cedar keeps a dry pencil-shaving edge running alongside. The agarwood never steps aside; the other notes simply gather around it.

The last stretch is the softest. Sandalwood turns creamy, oakmoss adds a green, shadowed drag, and white musk cleans up the edges, leaving a warm woody trail on skin and on clothing.

Autumn and winter are where it makes most sense, for evenings and for ordinary days, and it works equally on men and on women.

How to wear

Start with the deodorant spray on clean, dry skin after showering, holding the can about 20cm away. Follow with two or three sprays of the eau de parfum on moisturised wrists, the throat and the chest from roughly 15cm, and let it dry in the air rather than rubbing it in. A single spray on a scarf or coat collar keeps the agarwood and sandalwood going all day.
