Sahebat Al Jamal opens with a snap. Pink pepper gives the first seconds a bit of bite and green angelica root pulls in a cool, rooty bitterness behind it, before red berries arrive and soften the whole thing into something far more welcoming.

The heart is where it turns elegant. Iris does what iris does - cool, powdery, a touch grey and very composed - and fresh orange blossom sits against it to keep the flower from feeling severe. Polished rather than pretty.

Afterwards it goes quiet and close. Clean musk and ambroxan create that smooth, skin-like warmth that follows the body rather than announcing it, and tonka bean lends a creamy, lightly sweet edge to the finish.

How to wear

Spray twice on the throat and once on each wrist from roughly 15cm, onto moisturised skin, and resist rubbing - iris is delicate and friction dulls it. Because the base sits so close to the skin, a light mist over the shoulders or on a jumper gives the musk and ambroxan a little more reach without raising the volume.
