Bitter orange peel and a strong cup of Earl Grey.

Supreme opens dry and bracing. Bitter orange leads, all peel and no juice, a bitter aperitif accord sharpens it further, and cracked pepper prickles over the top. There is nothing sweet about the first few minutes.

The heart is where it comes into its own. Earl Grey tea brings bergamot-scented leaf and a proper tannic dryness, nutmeg and cardamom warm it from beneath, and the whole thing reads like a pot brewing in a wood-panelled room.

It settles onto vetiver, cedar and patchouli - earthy, rooty and dry - with Peru balsam and vanilla rounding off the edges and cashmere wood smoothing the finish. Warm at the close, but never sugary.

Autumn and winter suit it, and it is as good at a desk as it is at dinner. A unisex fragrance with a tailored, slightly austere character.

How to wear

Spray 2-3 times on pulse points (wrists, neck, behind the ears) from about 15cm away. Apply to moisturised skin and don't rub, so the bitter orange and pepper stay sharp. A light mist on a collar keeps the tea and vetiver with you.
