Ufuq Harmony opens on lapsang souchong - a smoked black tea note with a dry, tarry, pine-wood edge to it. It is cool rather than warm at first, more bonfire smoke on a jumper than anything blazing, and it has the tannic bite of tea left a minute too long in the pot.

Jasmine absolute follows and softens the smoke without sweetening it. The absolute is dense and slightly leathery, a long way from a light spring jasmine, and it gives the middle a refined floral centre that reads as polish rather than perfume. Smoke and flower sit beside each other rather than fighting, which is what the name is getting at.

The base is a quiet vanilla extract - not a dessert vanilla, but the darker, faintly woody kind, just enough to take the chill off the tea and let the whole thing rest close to the skin. It finishes composed, understated and grown-up.

How to wear

Spray 2-3 times on pulse points (wrists, neck, behind the ears) from about 15cm away. Apply to moisturised skin and don't rub, so the smoked tea keeps its dry edge. One spray on a shirt collar carries the jasmine and vanilla quietly through a working day.
